Reliance’s Jio Studios Withdraws Anti-Piracy Lawsuit for Film Dhurandhar at Madras High Court

The Csr Journal
Reliance’s Jio Studios has withdrawn its anti-piracy lawsuit against various telecom and internet service providers regarding the film Dhurandhar.

Summary

The Madras High Court allowed Reliance Industries Limited, through its Jio Studios media unit, to withdraw a lawsuit filed concerning potential piracy of the film “Dhurandhar.” The case, initially filed under the Copyright Act of 1957 against numerous defendants including BSNL, MTNL, Bharti Airtel, and others, sought to prevent unauthorized online distribution and cable transmission of the film. Reliance had requested court orders to block access to websites hosting infringing copies and to prohibit cable operators from facilitating piracy. The court had previously granted interim protection, restraining service providers from airing pirated versions. However, on February 18th, Reliance’s counsel informed the court of their decision to discontinue the proceedings, leading to the lawsuit’s dismissal without costs. The court order did not provide a reason for Reliance’s withdrawal.
