Epstein estate agrees to $35 million settlement in victim class action

CNBC TV18
Jeffrey Epstein's estate will pay up to $35 million to settle a lawsuit accusing advisors of aiding his sex trafficking.

Summary

Jeffrey Epstein’s estate has reached a settlement agreement to pay up to $35 million to resolve a class action lawsuit against Darren Indyke and Richard Kahn, co-executors accused of facilitating Epstein’s sex trafficking. The deal, filed in federal court in Manhattan, aims to end a 2024 lawsuit targeting Epstein's former lawyer and accountant. This settlement is in addition to the $121 million already distributed through a restitution fund and $49 million in prior settlements to victims.

Lawyers for Indyke and Kahn stated that their clients did not admit any wrongdoing but agreed to mediate to achieve finality for potential claims against the estate, offering a confidential financial avenue for unresolved victim claims. The lawsuit alleged that Indyke and Kahn helped Epstein establish a network of corporations and bank accounts to conceal his abuse and compensate those involved, while profiting themselves.

Boies Schiller Flexner, representing the victims, previously secured $365 million in settlements with JPMorgan Chase and Deutsche Bank for allegedly overlooking red flags related to Epstein’s activities. Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in August 2019.
