Higher power bills likely as Oncor, North Texas cities reach rate settlement
Summary
Oncor, the largest energy delivery company in Texas, and North Texas cities have reached a settlement agreement with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) regarding proposed rate increases. The agreement results in a proposed rate hike of approximately 3% for residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month, translating to about $4.64 more per month. This is lower than the initial request of a 4.7% increase, or roughly $7.90 a month. The rate increase is intended to fund improvements to Oncor’s transmission and distribution system to support the state’s growing energy needs and enhance safety and reliability. A decision from the PUCT is expected in the first half of 2026, and if approved, Oncor will apply a temporary adjustment to cover the difference between current and new rates starting January 1st of this year. State law allows Oncor to file for rate adjustments every four years to recover capital costs.
