Trump files $10B lawsuit against IRS over alleged tax return leaks to major news outlets

Fox News
Donald Trump is suing the IRS for $10 billion, alleging unlawful leaks of his tax returns motivated by political bias.

Summary

Former President Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), claiming the agency illegally leaked his confidential tax returns to major news outlets like The New York Times and ProPublica. The lawsuit alleges a “rogue, politically motivated” IRS employee disclosed private tax information, violating federal privacy laws and causing harm. The employee, Charles Littlejohn, has already pleaded guilty to unauthorized disclosure of tax return information and is serving a five-year prison sentence after admitting to leaking Trump’s records and those of other wealthy individuals.

According to the lawsuit, Littlejohn testified that the leaked materials included information on all of Trump’s business holdings. The Department of Justice (DOJ) previously described Littlejohn’s disclosures as “unprecedented in its scope and scale.” Littlejohn had previously refused to testify before Congress, invoking his Fifth Amendment rights while appealing his sentence.

This lawsuit comes after Trump filed another suit against the BBC over editing of his January 6th remarks, demonstrating a pattern of legal action taken by the former president against media outlets and government entities.
