Marilyn Manson’s Ex-Assistant Successfully Revives Sex Abuse Lawsuit Against Rocker (Again)

Billboard
Ashley Walters, Marilyn Manson’s former assistant, has successfully revived her sex abuse lawsuit against him due to a new California law.

Summary

Marilyn Manson’s ex-assistant, Ashley Walters, has once again had her 2021 sexual assault lawsuit against the rocker revived, this time due to California’s Assembly Bill 250, which opened a two-year window for victims of past sexual abuse to file claims. Walters alleges Manson subjected her to “sexual exploitation, manipulation and psychological abuse” between 2010 and 2011. The case had previously been dismissed as untimely, then briefly reinstated on appeal based on the delayed discovery rule, before being dismissed again.

Walters’ attorney, Kate McFarlane, expressed excitement about the judge’s decision, stating that the new law removes a significant obstacle to accountability. Manson’s lawyer, Howard King, argues that Walters’ claims do not meet the criteria for sexual assault as defined by the new law and intends to seek dismissal.

Walters is one of several women who have accused Manson of abuse, including Evan Rachel Wood, Esmé Bianco, and Ashley Morgan Smithline. While Manson settled with Bianco and Smithline dropped her claims, he continues to deny all allegations. A follow-up court appearance is scheduled for March, where Manson’s team will continue to challenge the revival of the lawsuit.
