Bought a Belkin power bank in the past decade? You may have some cash coming your way
Summary
Belkin has reached a settlement in a class-action lawsuit alleging that the company misrepresented the capacity of its power banks. Customers in California who purchased Belkin power banks between January 2, 2016, and April 16, 2024, may be eligible to submit a claim for a payout. The lawsuit, “Miley v. Belkin International, Inc.,” stemmed from claims that the power banks did not deliver the advertised milliamp-hour (mAh) capacity, with some tests showing discrepancies as high as 40%. While some loss of capacity is expected during charging, the plaintiffs argued the discrepancy was excessive. As part of the settlement, Belkin will clarify that its mAh figures refer to the internal battery capacity, not the deliverable charge. Eligible claimants can choose between a $2 cash payout or a $5 Belkin voucher. The company has also agreed to change how it advertises its power banks going forward.
