Bayer agrees to $7.25B Roundup class-action settlement - Breitbart

Bayer will pay $7.25 billion to settle lawsuits claiming its Roundup weedkiller caused non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Summary

Bayer has agreed to a $7.25 billion settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit alleging that its Roundup weedkiller caused cancer. The settlement will establish a fund to cover existing and future claims from individuals diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, after exposure to Roundup. Bayer’s CEO, Bill Anderson, stated the agreement provides “an essential path out of the litigation uncertainty” and allows the company to focus on innovation.

The settlement includes a separate case, Durnell, currently before the Supreme Court. Monsanto, a Bayer subsidiary and the producer of Roundup, will make annual payments into the settlement fund over the next 21 years. Importantly, Monsanto does not admit wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to resolve tens of thousands of lawsuits and prevent future claims.

The settlement applies to individuals exposed to Roundup before Tuesday who have already been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma or receive a diagnosis within 16 years of the settlement’s final approval.
