Drake faces class action lawsuit over ties to ’illegal’ online gambling company

The Province
Drake is facing a class action lawsuit alleging his promotion of Stake.us helped inflate streaming counts through illicit financial transactions.

Summary

Drake is being sued in a proposed U.S. class action lawsuit centered around his promotion of Stake.us, the American website for the online casino operator Stake. The lawsuit alleges that Drake, along with social media influencer Adin Ross and George Nguyen, used proceeds from the gambling website to obscure money transmissions and artificially inflate Drake’s music streaming play counts. Plaintiffs claim Stake.us is an “illegal online gambling platform” that uses “Stake Cash,” redeemable for cryptocurrency or gift cards, effectively functioning as real money. The suit further alleges that the trio used the platform’s “tipping” function to transfer funds and manipulate streaming platforms like Spotify, suppressing authentic artists and misleading consumers. The plaintiffs are seeking at least $5 million in damages and a jury trial. Representatives for Drake and Stake have not yet responded to requests for comment, and the allegations remain unproven in court.
