Target sending checks to 13,700 Americans from $4.6m settlement

Newsweek
Target will distribute $4.6 million to 13,700 current and former employees to settle a wage-and-hour lawsuit.

Summary

Target has reached a $4.6 million settlement in a class action lawsuit concerning unpaid wages for employees at its New Jersey distribution centers. The lawsuit, filed by Krystal Sadler in November 2022, alleged that workers were not fully compensated for mandatory security screenings and time spent walking within the facilities before and after shifts. Approximately 13,700 current and former employees who worked at the Burlington, Perth Amboy, and Logan Township distribution centers from August 6, 2019, are eligible to receive payments, which will be distributed automatically on a pro rata basis. While Target denies the allegations, it chose to settle to avoid further litigation. The settlement allocates $2.75 million to claimants, $1.53 million for attorney fees, and $10,000 to the lead plaintiff. The court's final approval is scheduled for February 24th, with checks expected to be issued shortly after.
