TCP rescinds settlement zoning proposal at Arambol

The Times Of India
The TCP department withdrew its approval for land use changes at Arambol, Pernem, following protests from villagers.

Summary

The Town and Country Planning (TCP) department of Goa has rescinded its approval to rezone approximately 3 lakh sqm of land in Arambol, Pernem, from its current land use to settlement zones. This decision follows months of protests by local villagers who opposed the proposed changes. Chief Town Planner Vertika Dagur issued the notification after TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane announced the withdrawal. The TCP board stated the decision was made on December 23rd.

Previously, the department had agreed to convert two survey numbers under Section 39A of the Goa TCP Act by modifying the Regional Plan, 2021. The land is owned by Kishore Kumar Kaya Kailash Rajendra Singla. One plot, survey no. 275/0(part) at 1 lakh sqm, included orchard land, a playground, and a no-development slope, all of which were slated for conversion.

The second plot, encompassing 2 lakh sqm, proposed converting over 1.2 lakh sqm – including orchard land, no-development slopes, and even 608sqm of crematorium land – into a settlement zone. The withdrawal of approval effectively halts these proposed land use changes.
