A family is suing Delta and KLM, alleging a transatlantic flight was infested with bedbugs, causing them significant distress and medical expenses.

Summary

A Virginia family, the Albuquerques, is suing Delta Air Lines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines after claiming their international flight to Amsterdam on March 21 was infested with bedbugs. The family, including Romulo Albuquerque, Lisandra Garcia, and their children, Benicio and Lorenzo, experienced bites and skin reactions during the flight, which originated with a Delta flight to Atlanta and continued on a KLM flight to Amsterdam and then to Belgrade, Serbia. According to the lawsuit, Garcia first noticed bugs crawling on her approximately two hours into the flight to Amsterdam, and she and Albuquerque alerted a flight attendant, who allegedly asked them to remain quiet to avoid alarming other passengers. The lawsuit further alleges that flight attendants urged them not to disclose the infestation to avoid missing their connecting flight. The family is seeking $200,000 in compensation for medical expenses, lost clothing, and emotional distress. Delta stated the flights in question were not operated by them and they will review the complaint, while KLM declined to comment on the specific allegations.
