Israel Announces Construction of 1,200 New Settlement Units and Levels Land to Rebuild Sanur Settlement

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced the construction of 1,200 new settlement units in Beit El, signaling an acceleration of expansion plans in the occupied West Bank. Simultaneously, Israeli forces began leveling land to rebuild the Sanur settlement, which was evacuated in 2005. These actions are part of a broader project to establish new settlement outposts and rebuild Israeli army camps.

Alongside settlement expansion, there's a reported escalation in Israeli violations of the Palestinian water sector since October 7, 2023. This includes sabotaging water networks, controlling springs, and diverting water sources to settlements, leading to water deprivation for Palestinian villages and increased reliance on the Israeli water company “Mekorot.” Palestinians are reportedly prevented from accessing over 85% of their water resources.

These developments are occurring alongside increased Israeli military activity in the West Bank, including raids near Qalandia checkpoint and in Birzeit. Palestinian and international observers warn that these combined actions – settlement expansion, military incursions, and control over natural resources – pose a significant threat to stability and Palestinian existence in the region.
