Final week for pet owners to claim $140 as part of $1.9m ‘collar’ settlement – there won’t be any second chances

The Sun
Pet owners who purchased certain PetSafe e-collars may be eligible to claim up to $140 as part of a $1.9 million settlement.

Summary

American pet owners have one week, until December 29th, to claim compensation from a $1.9 million settlement with Radio Systems Corp., the maker of PetSafe e-collars. The lawsuit alleged that the company falsely advertised the collars as “safe” and “harmless,” despite evidence suggesting they could cause stress, confusion, and depression in pets.

Eligible products include various Bark Control Collars, Barrier Products, In-Ground Fence Products, and Wireless Fence Products purchased in California between October 1, 2018, and October 31, 2022. Claimants can receive up to $30 per Bark Collar Product, $35 per Barrier Product, $90 per In-Ground Fence Product, and $140 per Wireless Fence Product, though the final amount will depend on the number of claims filed.

While Radio Systems Corp. denies any wrongdoing, they agreed to the settlement to avoid further legal battles. Claim forms can be submitted online or by mail, and proof of purchase is required for claims involving more than three items. A final approval hearing is scheduled for January 26th, after which payments will be distributed.
