Attorney General Ken Paxton Informs Texans on How to Claim Their Share of $700 Million Google Antitrust Settlement Payout

Google News
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a $700 million Google antitrust settlement payout for affected consumers.

Summary

Attorney General Ken Paxton is informing Texans about how to claim their portion of a $700 million settlement with Google, finalized after the company was found to have violated antitrust laws. The settlement, reached in 2023 with attorneys general from all U.S. states and territories, addresses Google’s anticompetitive practices within the Google Play Store between August 2016 and September 2023. Google unlawfully monopolized Android app distribution and in-app payment processing. Affected consumers will be automatically notified via email (PayPal) or text (Venmo) using the contact information associated with their Google Play account. Those without existing accounts or with outdated contact information will have the option to create new accounts or direct payments elsewhere. A supplemental claims process will follow for those who do not receive automatic payments. Consumers can sign up for email notifications about the supplemental process on the settlement website. Individuals wishing to exclude themselves from the settlement or object to it must do so by February 19, 2026, with a court hearing scheduled for April 30, 2026, to finalize approval.
