Dollar General to pay Pennsylvania $1.55M settlement for allegedly overcharging customers

Yahoo! News
Dollar General will pay Pennsylvania $1.55 million after investigations revealed widespread overcharging of customers at its stores.

Summary

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday has reached a $1.55 million settlement with Dollar General Corporation due to allegations of overcharging customers across more than 900 retail locations in the state. An investigation by the Office of Attorney General found numerous instances where prices at the register were higher than those displayed on shelves. Between 2019 and 2023, Dollar General stores failed over 40% of pricing accuracy inspections. As part of the settlement, Dollar General is required to enhance its business practices by training employees on price accuracy, maintaining adequate staffing for weekly shelf tag updates, and conducting at least two unannounced pricing audits each year. The company must also correct any price discrepancies within 24 hours and post notices at registers guaranteeing the lowest posted price. Consumers who find pricing errors are encouraged to file complaints with the Bureau of Consumer Protection.
