State Minister Zavia Mayne Files Lawsuit Against Integrity Commission
Summary
State Minister for Finance and the Public Service, Zavia Mayne, has filed a lawsuit against the Integrity Commission, requesting the Supreme Court to quash the Director of Corruption Prosecution’s ruling to charge him for breaching the Integrity Commission Act. The lawsuit also seeks to rescind the July 14, 2025 investigation report, which alleged he failed to provide requested information regarding his statutory declarations from 2018-2022. Mr. Mayne, represented by attorney Nigel Jones, claims he provided all requested documents and information, and that the Commission handled the matter unjustly. He further accuses the Integrity Commission of breaching his constitutional rights by disclosing details of the investigation.
Mr. Jones argues the investigation, findings, and recommendations were made in breach of natural justice and procedural fairness, and that Mr. Mayne was denied a fair hearing. The lawsuit requests declarations confirming these breaches, as well as damages for breach of privacy, negligent investigation, and aggravated damages.
If convicted, Mr. Mayne could face a fine of up to $500,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, in addition to being ordered to comply with the outstanding requirements. The case centers on whether Mr. Mayne adequately fulfilled his obligations regarding statutory declarations and whether the Integrity Commission followed due process in its investigation.
