IndiGo fiasco: 87% flyers back class action under Consumer Protection Act, says survey

Times of India
A survey reveals 87% of IndiGo passengers support a class action lawsuit due to recent flight cancellations and poor service.

Summary

A recent survey by LocalCircles indicates widespread dissatisfaction among IndiGo passengers following hundreds of flight cancellations and delays over the past four days. According to the survey, cited by PTI, a significant 87% of the 32,547 respondents believe the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) should investigate IndiGo’s service deficiencies under the Class Action provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Passengers’ concerns extend beyond just cancellations and delays, encompassing issues with refund integrity – including unexpected deductions and processing delays – as well as failures related to cancellation assurances and inadequate customer support when flights were missed. Many reported receiving refunds lower than the fares paid, despite being promised full reimbursement.

The Class Action provision of the CP Act allows consumers with similar grievances to collectively pursue legal recourse against a company for deficiencies in service or unfair practices. The survey highlights a strong desire among IndiGo passengers to utilize this provision to address the issues they have experienced.
