FG, Niger Launch Mass Housing, Agricultural Settlement Project With MoU
Summary
The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Niger State government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement a mass housing and agricultural settlement project, with the Federal Ministry of Finance providing strategic guidance. Niger State is contributing 100,000 hectares of land for the Sustainable Integrated Productive Communities (SIPC) project, with the goal of strengthening agricultural value chains, improving livelihoods, and addressing challenges like insecure settlements and rural-urban migration. The initiative, championed by Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, aims to create stable communities for farmers with access to infrastructure, promoting agricultural efficiency and profitability.
The project utilizes an innovative financing model blending public assets with private investment, managed by the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), to optimize assets and mobilize capital. It will stimulate economic activity by creating jobs in agriculture, construction, and related industries, while prioritizing affordability and sustainability through renewable energy solutions and environmentally responsible building practices. The MoU signals Niger State’s openness to investment and serves as a scalable model for other regions.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago praised the partnership and committed to providing necessary infrastructure, while Dr. Armstrong Takang, Managing Director of MOFI, highlighted the project’s focus on empowering local communities. The initiative represents a collaborative effort to integrate housing, agriculture, finance, and governance for sustained prosperity in Niger State.
