$13.5M LexisNexis Settlement Ends Class Action Lawsuit Over Allegedly Wrongful Death Reports

ClassAction.org
LexisNexis will pay $13.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit regarding inaccurate death reports for living individuals.

Summary

LexisNexis Risk Solutions FL has agreed to a $13.5 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging the company wrongfully reported death notations for consumers who were still alive. The settlement covers two classes: those who contacted LexisNexis about a deceased notation (“Contact Members”) and those identified as deceased in LexisNexis’s records (“Product Members”). Approximately 1,700 individuals are in the Contact Members class, and 59,000 are in the Product Members class. Contact Members will automatically receive a pro-rated payment, while Product Members must submit a claim form by May 15, 2026, to receive compensation, potentially ranging from $150 to $1,000 depending on the number of claims and remaining funds. The lawsuit claimed LexisNexis violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by inaccurately reporting individuals as deceased. Final approval of the settlement is scheduled for March 16, 2026, with payouts beginning after that and any appeals are resolved.
