State, contractor agree to $2M settlement over shoddy construction new state park near Xenia
Summary
The state of Ohio has reached a $2 million settlement with WAI Construction Group, LLC following disputes regarding the construction of the interpretive center at Great Council State Park. Located near Xenia on the site of the Shawnee village of Old Chillicothe, the park's primary attraction is a 12,000-square-foot building designed to honor Native Americans.
According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), the settlement addresses significant construction issues, including problems with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, roofing, and electrical connections. Governor Mike DeWine noted that the contractor was deemed inadequate for the scope of the project.
The $2 million settlement, approved by the Ohio Controlling Board, will be used to fund a new contractor to repair the defects and ensure the facility meets required standards.
