Costco will pay $14 million to customers after lawsuit settlement: check if you qualify

Costco has reached a $14 million settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit alleging the company used false or misleading subject lines in promotional emails. The plaintiffs claimed that these emails created a false sense of urgency by suggesting time-limited deals were ending, even though the offers remained valid after the stated deadlines. This alleged conduct was cited as a potential violation of the Commercial Electronic Mail Act and the Washington State Consumer Protection Law.

The settlement fund is specifically intended for residents of Washington state who received promotional emails from Costco between June 2, 2021, and July 7, 2026. Notably, claimants do not need to provide proof of purchase to be eligible. The individual payout amount remains undetermined and will depend on the total number of approved claims.

To participate, eligible consumers must submit a claim through the official Costco Email Settlement website by the August 24, 2026, deadline. The settlement received preliminary court approval on July 2, 2026, and is awaiting final judicial approval, which is scheduled for a hearing on October 2, 2026.
