The Federal Parastatals and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEPPPAN) applauded President Bola Tinubu for authorising the liquidation of more than N39 billion in inherited Defined Benefit Scheme pension liabilities, with the settlement of 35‑month arrears owed to 9,675 former NITEL/MTEL employees forming the largest component. FEPPPAN highlighted the role of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, the National Assembly, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Budget Office and the Office of the Accountant‑General in facilitating the approval, and praised the administration’s commitment to social protection under its Renewed Hope Agenda. The association urged the government to continue addressing outstanding pension obligations, ensure timely monthly payments and pursue reforms to protect retirees from inflation and rising living costs.
