Mandaue City, led by Mayor Thadeo “Jonkie” Ouano, has signed a compromise agreement with Asian Energy Systems Corporation, the operator of a landfill in Consolacion. The agreement involves the city paying P9.3 million in unpaid obligations to resolve a legal dispute currently pending before the Regional Trial Court in Parañaque City.

Once the court and the Commission on Audit (COA) approve the settlement, the city may enter a procurement process to utilize the Consolacion facility. Direct disposal would allow garbage trucks to travel straight from barangays to the landfill, eliminating the need for a transfer station and potentially reducing fuel consumption and travel time due to the facility's proximity.
