Uche Nnaji Seeks Out-of-Court Settlement in Certificate Forgery Suit Against UNN

Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, is pursuing an out-of-court settlement in a lawsuit against the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) and other parties concerning allegations of certificate forgery. The suit originated from an investigation claiming Nnaji forged his degree and NYSC certificates, leading to his resignation. During recent court proceedings, Nnaji’s counsel requested an adjournment to continue settlement negotiations, a request not opposed by representatives of the Minister of Education and the National Universities Commission.

The court has deferred consideration of pending motions until settlement efforts fail. A federal government panel, established by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, found no record of Nnaji graduating from UNN despite his admission in 1981/82, and no evidence of completing required coursework or graduating in 1985.

These findings have fueled calls for further legal action regarding the alleged forgery, even as Nnaji attempts to resolve the dispute through negotiation. The case was adjourned to July 8, and has faced procedural delays including issues with serving court documents and preliminary objections.
