Shopped at a NC Sprouts grocery store? You may be owed part of a $5M settlement
Summary
Sprouts Farmers Market has agreed to a $5 million settlement due to a class-action lawsuit alleging that customer receipts displayed more than the last five digits of their credit and debit card numbers, violating the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act. The lawsuit, filed in 2022, claimed a vendor-related IT issue caused self-checkout kiosks to misprint card information. Sprouts denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement.
Customers who used a credit or debit card at a Sprouts store in the U.S. between August 16, 2020, and October 31, 2022, or an EBT card between March 15, 2021, and April 15, 2023, and received a receipt with excessive card details, may be eligible for a payment. Claim forms can be submitted online or by mail, with a postmark deadline of August 5th.
Eligible shoppers will receive a pro-rata share of the settlement fund after legal fees and costs are deducted, with the final amount depending on the number of valid claims received. A hearing to approve the settlement is scheduled for November 19th, but the payment process may take some time afterward.
