Video shows Cybertruck nearly drive mom and baby off overpass: lawsuit
Summary
A woman in Houston is suing Tesla for $1 million after alleging her Cybertruck, operating in autopilot mode, nearly drove her and her infant off an overpass in August 2025 before crashing into a barrier. Attorney Bob Hilliard stated that the vehicle “attempted to drive straight off an overpass” without warning. Dashcam footage shows the Cybertruck failing to navigate a Y-shaped overpass curve and colliding with a concrete barrier, causing significant damage and injuries to the driver, Justine Saint Amour, including shoulder, neck, and back injuries.
Saint Amour attempted to regain control before the impact, but it was too late. The lawsuit alleges Tesla misrepresented the capabilities of its Autopilot system and was negligent in its design, specifically citing the lack of LiDAR and effective emergency braking. Hilliard argues that Tesla prioritized cost-cutting measures over safety, stating, “Tesla’s decisions made Justine’s accident inevitable.”
This case follows a recent settlement with California regulators regarding misleading advertising of Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving features. Tesla has rebranded some features, like “Navigate on Autopilot” to “Navigate on Autosteer,” and is currently expanding its autonomous vehicle services with the launch of the Cybercab. Tesla has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit.
