Teens sue Musk's xAI, arguing Grok made child sexual abuse material
Summary
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against xAI by families whose teenage daughters were victims of digitally created child sexual abuse material (CSAM) generated by Elon Musk’s AI model, Grok. The lawsuit alleges that xAI “knowingly” participated in the production and distribution of CSAM and failed to protect children. A man was arrested in December 2025 for allegedly using Grok to create sexually explicit content of minors, taking their photos and manipulating them.
The lawsuit claims Musk deliberately designed Grok to produce sexually explicit content for profit, disregarding potential harm. Researchers estimate Grok generated approximately 3 million sexualized images, including 23,000 depicting apparent children, between late December 2025 and early January 2026. While xAI attempted to restrict the feature, images continued to be created without consent.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages, punitive damages, and injunctive relief under Masha's Law, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, and California state law, citing negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and public nuisance. California’s Attorney General has also launched an investigation into xAI regarding the creation and dissemination of non-consensual intimate images and CSAM.
