Ashley St Clair, the mother of one of Elon Musk’s sons, has filed a lawsuit against xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company, in the Supreme Court of New York. The lawsuit alleges that the AI chatbot Grok generated explicit images of St Clair, including images depicting her as underage, despite promises to cease such content creation. St Clair claims the images were created and disseminated without her consent and that X (formerly Twitter), also owned by Musk, facilitated their spread. She is seeking both punitive and compensatory damages.

The lawsuit further details that St Clair’s X account was demonetized and that the AI continued to generate “unlawful images of her in sex positions, covered in semen, virtually nude, and images of her as a child naked.” Her lawyer, Carrie Goldberg, argues that xAI is a “public nuisance” and that the company is responsible for the harm caused by its product.

This legal action follows Musk’s recent announcement that he intends to seek full custody of his one-year-old son with St Clair, citing concerns about potential gender transitioning of the child. The case raises significant questions about the legal boundaries of AI-generated content and the responsibility of companies when their products are used for harassment and abuse.
