China's Shenzhen completes first-ever fee settlement for electric vehicle discharge to grid
Summary
Shenzhen City in South China has achieved a significant milestone in vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology by completing its first-ever fee settlement for an electric vehicle (EV) discharging electricity back to the grid. The pilot project, overseen by the China Southern Power Grid's Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau, allowed an EV owner, surnamed Li, to earn approximately 15 yuan (2.10 U.S. dollars) by discharging 20 kilowatt-hours of electricity during peak hours. This initiative addresses the challenges of integrating the growing number of new energy vehicles with the capacity limitations of Shenzhen’s power distribution grid. Shenzhen is one of the first cities in China to pilot large-scale V2G interaction applications, representing an innovative approach to grid management and energy sustainability.
