Quebec Superior Court approves class action against Ticketmaster for service fees

The Globe and Mail
A Quebec court has authorized a class-action lawsuit alleging Ticketmaster charges abusive service fees based on ticket prices.

Summary

The Quebec Superior Court has approved a class-action lawsuit against Ticketmaster, alleging the company charges service fees that are disproportionate to the cost of service. Justice Eleni Yiannakis ruled that the plaintiffs, represented by Paquette Gadler, demonstrated sufficient grounds for a full trial and potential refunds if successful. The lawsuit claims Ticketmaster’s fees fluctuate with ticket prices, violating Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act and Civil Code. Filed in August 2024 on behalf of Felipe Morales, the class action includes Quebec residents who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster for North American events since July 2021. Ticketmaster has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the ruling.
