Target sued over yogurt covered pretzels without yogurt

A class action lawsuit alleges Target misrepresents 'yogurt covered' snacks that do not contain yogurt.

Summary

Target is facing a federal class action lawsuit alleging it misrepresents 'yogurt covered' food products that do not actually contain yogurt. Plaintiff Victor Sierra claims Target advertises various food products under its brands, including Favorite Day and Good & Gathered, as 'yogurt covered.' He alleges the products are not made with yogurt, yogurt powder, or a yogurt-based ingredient. Sierra, who purchased a 6-oz. package of Favorite Day Blueberry Yogurt Covered Mini Pretzels from Target stores multiple times, says he relied on Target's allegedly false marketing and would not have bought the product, or would have paid less, if he knew it was not 'yogurt covered.' The lawsuit accuses Target of misleading health-conscious consumers who are willing to pay more for food products that contain real yogurt. Instead of yogurt, the product's 'confectionary coating' contains sugar, palm kernel oil, nonfat milk, whole milk powder, whey powder, palm oil, soy lecithin, and vanilla. Sierra claims Target violated statutes of New York General Business Law that prohibit deceptive business practices and false advertising. The plaintiff seeks to represent a class of New York consumers who purchased 'yogurt covered' products that did not contain yogurt during a certain time period. Sierra is asking the court to require Target to change its labeling claims and provide consumers with damages. The class action lawsuit against Target is Sierra v. Target Corporation and was filed on May 11, 2026, in a U.S. district court for the Eastern District of New York.
