Trader Joe's to pay $7.4 million over receipt dispute: Are you owed money?

WLTX.com
Trader Joe's will pay $7.4 million to settle a lawsuit over receipts that displayed too much credit/debit card information.

Summary

Trader Joe's has agreed to a $7.4 million settlement in a class action lawsuit alleging that customer receipts printed excessive credit and debit card details, potentially increasing the risk of identity theft. The lawsuit claimed Trader Joe's violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) by printing the first six and last four digits of card numbers, exceeding the legally permitted five last digits. Customers who used a credit or debit card at Trader Joe's between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019, and whose receipts displayed the full card information, may be eligible for a payout. The estimated payout per claimant is around $102.45, dependent on the number of valid claims filed. Eligible customers must file a claim by June 9, 2026, through the settlement website, phone, or mail. Trader Joe's denies any wrongdoing and states that not all stores were affected and no identity theft has been reported as a result.
