Tinder to pay $60.5M in Calif. in age discrimination suit -- here's how to apply for a payout
Summary
Tinder has reached a $60.5 million settlement in a class action lawsuit accusing the dating app of age discrimination. The lawsuit, originally filed in 2015 by Allan Candelore, claimed Tinder violated California law by charging older users more for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold subscriptions. The settlement applies to California residents aged 29 or older who purchased these subscriptions on or after March 2, 2015, or 28 or older after March 2, 2016.
Over 260,000 users are expected to be eligible for payouts, with the amount received based on their subscription costs. While Tinder did not admit wrongdoing, they have agreed to the settlement terms.
A court hearing for final approval is scheduled for May 20, and affected users have until April 8 to opt out or object, and until August 18 to specify their preferred method of payment.
