Arizona renters see money from $1M settlement in price-fixing scheme

Arizona renters are eligible for funds from a $1 million settlement with Wiedner Property Management over allegations of price-fixing.

Summary

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced a $1 million settlement with Wiedner Property Management LLC to resolve allegations of price-fixing that inflated rents for thousands of Arizona renters. The lawsuit, filed two years ago, centered on the company’s use of algorithmic software that prosecutors claim unlawfully colluded with other landlords to fix rental prices. Mayes stated, “We're here to send a signal that you cannot cheat Arizona renters in the state of Arizona, at least not while I'm the attorney general.”

The settlement funds will be distributed through the nonprofit Wildfire, with payments estimated to cover approximately two months’ rent for eligible renters. Current and former tenants who rented from Wiedner between 2016 and the present can apply for assistance. Wiedner has ceased using the RealPage software at the center of the allegations and is prohibited from using similar products or sharing rental data in the future.

Mayes is continuing to pursue legal action against RealPage and other landlords involved in the alleged scheme, emphasizing her commitment to fighting for renters' rights and securing fair compensation for those harmed by the price-fixing practices.
