Ex-Ohio State Players to Join a Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Against the School
Summary
Thirty former Ohio State football players, including three who have chosen to make their identities public, have agreed to join a federal lawsuit against the university. The lawsuit alleges decades-old sexual abuse by Dr. Richard Strauss, a team doctor who worked at the school from 1978 to 1998. The men, some of whom are former NFL players, came forward eight years after the first lawsuit was filed, overcoming shame and fear to speak out. The Associated Press reports that hundreds of former student-athletes have accused Strauss of abuse. Ohio State has settled with 317 survivors for more than $61 million and has stated it is committed to reconciliation. The three former players who have gone public are Al Washington, Ray Ellis, and Keith Ferguson, all members of the 1980 Rose Bowl team.
