NSDL Launches Women Investment Plan, Offers Zero Settlement Fees For 3 Years To Boost Participation

NSDL's new Women Plan waives settlement fees for three years to encourage greater female participation in India's capital markets.

Summary

National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) has launched a Women Plan to incentivize women's investment in the Indian capital markets. The plan offers zero settlement fees on debit transactions for three years to new women demat account holders opening accounts between April 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027. This initiative comes as the number of women investors in India has rapidly increased, with demat accounts held by women jumping over 129 percent since 2021, reaching over 28 million by early 2026.

The plan is designed to remove cost barriers for first-time investors, making it less intimidating for women to begin investing. There are no age limits or transaction caps, and joint accounts qualify if a woman is the first holder. NSDL believes that eliminating early costs will encourage more women to transition from saving to actively investing.

This initiative aligns with India’s broader financial inclusion goals, aiming to bring more women into the formal financial system and strengthen their long-term participation in capital markets. NSDL emphasizes that the plan is tailored for today’s digitally active women, focusing on simplicity, affordability, and accessibility.
