Tourist's slip-and-fall lawsuit against PIC could be settled

Guam Daily News
A lawsuit filed by a Korean tourist against Pacific Islands Club for a slip-and-fall injury may be settled out of court.

Summary

A Korean tourist, Eunhee Lee, filed a lawsuit against Pacific Islands Club (PIC) and its insurance company, Century Company (Guam) Ltd., following a slip-and-fall incident on March 27, 2024. The complaint alleges that Lee sustained severe injuries due to wet and slippery sidewalk areas near the hotel and beach, and that PIC failed to maintain a safe environment or provide adequate safety measures. Lee initially sought a jury trial and damages exceeding $1 million. However, during a recent status hearing, parties indicated they are working towards a settlement, hoping to resolve the matter within a week.

This case is one of two similar lawsuits filed by Korean tourists against Guam hotels. The other case, filed by Taehee Kim against Rihga Royal Laguna Guam Resort, was recently dismissed with prejudice, with both parties bearing their own costs and attorney fees. The dismissal stipulation indicated all claims were dropped, and no further legal action will be pursued in that matter. The potential settlement in the Lee case suggests a possible trend of resolving these types of incidents outside of court.
