Audi and VW Settle Class-Action Lawsuit over Turbocharger Repairs
Summary
The Volkswagen Group has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit concerning its EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, specifically the first three generations. The lawsuit alleged premature turbocharger failure, which VWG denies, but they will provide reimbursements and extended warranties to affected owners. Vehicles impacted include a range of Audi and VW models from 2008 to 2024, such as the Audi Q5 and VW Golf GTI.
Eligible owners who paid for turbocharger repairs within 85,000 miles or 8.5 years of the vehicle’s in-service date can file a claim for reimbursement, with amounts varying based on repair documentation (50% for wastegate issues, up to 40% otherwise, or up to $3580 for unauthorized dealer repairs). The deadline for submitting claims is November 29, 2025.
Owners of vehicles with the third-generation EA888 engine will receive a warranty extension covering 50% of turbocharger repair or replacement costs at an authorized dealer, lasting until November 14, 2025, or 85,000 miles, whichever comes first. Owners can check their eligibility and find more information using a VIN lookup tool or by calling the provided number.
